My name is Florian Kugler. I'm 46 years old and have been running Feincamper since 2021 in Kleinmachnow, right on Berlin's southern city border (originally founded as "Anton Reisemobile") with a special permit from the Berlin Chamber of Crafts in the vehicle body builder trade.
In my work of building camper conversions I draw on many interests and skills that I have acquired from my previous professional and private activities.
- My passion for traditional carpentry and wood in general allows me to use a wide range of materials and manufacturing techniques to develop individual solutions for each customer.
- My affinity for technology and electronics is reflected in the clean implementation of electrical systems and other installations in the camper.
- My background as a software engineer helps me with complex CAD planning and computer-aided manufacturing processes, enabling high-quality and efficient implementation.
- My many years of entrepreneurship in various fields help me with communication with customers and project management, so that complex conversion projects run smoothly.
And of course, very importantly: van conversion is more than just a job for me. I have been traveling with my own van for many years – for me, this is the most beautiful form of travel. In doing so, I have gained a lot of experience and tried many things myself. All of this flows into the conversions that I plan and implement with my customers.
What's important to me in my work
I enjoy taking on special conversion projects that are anything but ordinary in terms of design and craftsmanship. This requires time, patience, and care – all things that fit particularly well with my work in a small workshop. Therefore, Feincamper is not the right place for "as cheap as possible," but for people who value quality and individuality.
Therefore, Feincamper is deliberately a one-man operation. This structure allows me to work on one project at a time with full concentration, from planning to handover. With manageable fixed costs and without the pressure to keep employees busy, I can take time to work out special solutions and craft beautiful details. In addition, this environment facilitates communication about the many decisions that need to be made for a bespoke conversion, because all the threads come together with me.
In terms of craftsmanship, it is important to me that the conversion not only looks good and is functional, but that everything also feels good: smooth surfaces, no rough spots, and no sharp edges. Behind the scenes, I also value clean workmanship and installation: neatly glued insulation, properly laid cables and lines, accessible technology – all of this makes my work to be more enjoyable and the end product to be better.
The workshop
My workshop is located on Berlin's southwestern edge, in Kleinmachnow. With around 100 square meters, I have space for one vehicle, a well-equipped carpentry shop, and everything else needed for camper or motorhome conversions.
My workshop mixes traditional and modern tools: hand planes, chisels, and other classic hand tools are part of my daily work. Alongside them are modern woodworking machines as well as CNC equipment and 3D printers, which open up entirely new possibilities in production.
The podcast
Because van conversions are more than just a job to me, I launched the Camperwerkstatt Podcast in 2024. It's a hobby with no commercial background — simply about the joy of exchanging ideas with colleagues and others in the industry on topics relevant to van conversions. Note: the podcast is in German.
Whenever possible, I record the conversations in person at my guests' workshops. That's the best part of the project: I meet great people in the scene and get to look inside their workshops. From these encounters, I gain not only lasting contacts and friendships, but also inspiration for my own work, new ideas for solving tricky problems, and contacts for difficult questions — that makes my work better and benefits your conversion too.
